WORK EXPERIENCES

• Employed from 1977 to 1985 at a research institute of a big chemical industry.
• From 1977 to 1981 in the group of Drug Design, I made researches into structure-activity relationship on a class of pesticides with quantum - chemical, geometrical and statistical methods.
• In 1981 I made, on an Apple II plus, the personal computer version of the quantum-chemistry program PPP developed at the University of Leeds (G.B.) for the study of colors molecules.
• From 1981 to 1983 in the Instrumentation Group I developed basic and application software for microprocessor systems (8080) for data acquisition and process control.
  In this period I have realized these systems:
  • Control system for a mobile laboratory
  • Data acquisition system for a multipurpose plant
  • Temperature control system for a biological plant

  
  Language used: assembler 8080 on a microcomputer done at the Institute.

• From the beginning of 1984 to September 1985 in the Information group as the manager of the Program of Automation of a chemical laboratory with the duty to study and to realize an automation system for a laboratory's reactor (1.5 litters) and a system for the management of the laboratory's data.
  Hardware employed: IBM-XT with concurrent PC-DOS and language Modula 2, MMac 5000.
• From May 1985 consultant of a firm of Novara for the realization of the control system for a machine for the manufacturing of the silicon slices. The control was realized by means of an Analog Devices MMac 5000). The machine was installed at the end of September 1985.
• From October 1985 to June 1986 employed at the Department of Electronic of a firm of a multinational group to project automation systems with the main occupation on the realization of technical part of the offers for SCADA systems of medium-large size (20-50 remote stations, two or more 16 or 32 bits computers on the center with two operators workplaces).
• Since July 1986 as a free lance I have taken care of the final phase of the startup of the SCADA system (PROCONTROL 160 of BBC) of the Water Distribution Plant of a town in the north of Italy which has 50 remote stations equipped with INDACTIC 34 and INDACTIC 35 RTUs, with a total of near 2000 digital points and 800 measures. The center has four PDP 11 computers connected with an high speed network (PARTNERBUS of BBC). My work consisted in the analysis, project and realization of the programs to optimize the management and actuating automatically part of the plant.
• Some other projects I undertook:
  • the analysis, project and realization of the automation of the SCADA (BBC Becos 32 on MicroVax II) of a trust of water distribution plants in the north of Italy. This system has 23 remote stations and now is running without man's supervision completely in automatic way.
  • the project and the realization of a functions generator for a nuclear reactor. It gives the analogic references to the apparatus which controls the power sources for the magnets for the plasma generation
  • a data concentrator for the management of data coming from a maximum of 16 ABB Ranza Fault Locators, in 4 groups of 4 units. It manage 4 serial ports and a Hayes compatible modem
  • the technical assistance to the SCADA systems realized.
  • in 1992 a Data Translator for a SCADA system BECOS05 of Italian Railways using Turbo Pascal 6.0, Turbo Vision and OOP.
• Since September 1992 I have worked at the Network Control & Protection system installed at thermoelectric power generation center of an oil plant equipped with Spacom relays.
  In this system there is a control center receiving data (measures) from 60 protection relays and dialoguing with 2 Remote Terminal Units with about 400 digital points. My work concerns the development of software of the center using the ABB MicroScada, the user documentation and the training courses.
• In 1994 I was involved in the realization, managing a group of four people, of the software of a SCADA system for Italian railways for the control of the power lines.
• In 1996 I realized a new version (hw and sw) of the data concentrator for the Fault Locator of which I produced several copies and a new version (for Windows NT) of the program for the trends management for the SCADA system of the water distribution plant of a town in the north of Italy.
• Since 2000 I have taken care of the technical assistance and the upgrades of the SCADA system of the water distribution plant of a town in the north of Italy.
• In 2001 I realized a new version (hw and sw) of the data concentrator for the Fault Locator.

DIDACTIC EXPERIENCES

• Contract Assistant in the academic year 1974-75 at the Course of Biological Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Pisa with the duty to study and to realize the practical exercises of Biochemistry for the students.
• In 1978-79 teacher of Analytical Chemistry on a private institute of Novara for the evening undergraduate course of Chemistry
• In 1984 I made a course on the structure and the utilization of the personal computers for the Professors of the Istituto Tecnico per Periti Aziendali di Novara.
• In the academic year 1984-85 contract professor at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the University of Sassari to take an integrative course to the course of Exercising of Mathematics on the use of the computer in scientific applications.
